Why clay tile struggles in the Lower Mainland
Clay barrel tile was designed for dry heat. Our climate works against it: months of rain, moss establishing in the barrel channels, and freeze-thaw cycles that crack individual tiles. Every cracked tile is a leak path, and repairs mean sourcing matching clay and working around tiles that break under foot traffic as you go.
Brava's composite barrel tile does not absorb water, so moss has nothing to feed on and there is no freeze-thaw spalling. It is also light — light enough that most existing structures can carry it without reinforcement, which is rarely true of clay.

- Weight. Clay often needs structural engineering; composite and metal do not. Composite wins on cost once clay's structural work is priced in.

The sequence is the same as any of our full roof replacements: assessment, written scope with a deck repair allowance, tear-off, deck inspection and repair, then underlayment, flashings and ventilation before the tile goes on to the manufacturer's requirements — which is what keeps the 50-year material warranty intact.
