Natural slate is a beautiful material with three practical problems here. It is heavy — heavy enough that many homes need structural reinforcement before it can go on. It cracks — individual tiles break in freeze-thaw cycles or when someone walks the roof. And when it needs repair, you need a slate specialist, and there are not many of them.
Synthetic slate answers all three. Brava's tile is light enough for most existing structures, does not crack under foot traffic or cold snaps, and can be serviced by any competent roofing crew. The tile is compression moulded from real slate profiles, so the texture and thickness variation read as natural slate rather than a stamped imitation.

How long does a synthetic slate roof last?
Brava supports the tile with a 50-year limited material warranty, registered with Brava after purchase. On top of that you get our 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation itself. Material coverage and installation coverage are two different things, and a premium roof needs both. Because the tile does not absorb water, it sidesteps the moss cycle that wears out wood roofs here and the freeze-thaw cracking that chips away at natural slate.
